The Pulp Fiction Index - Part I
The other day I was flipping through the channels on TV when I happened
to tune in to one of my favorite movies, Pulp
Fiction (1994), which I hadn't seen in years. While I was watching
it I started thinking about what public companies the characters from
Pulp Fiction would invest in…
Vincent Vega, played by John
Travolta, is one of the first characters introduced in the film. He
had recently returned from Europe - If you've seen the movie, you've probably
already guessed Vincent Vega's company is McDonald's (MCD)
Vincent:
And you know what they call a... a... a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in
Paris?
Jules: They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with cheese?
Vincent: No man, they got the metric system. They wouldn't
know what the F@! a Quarter Pounder is.
Jules: Then what do they call it?
Vincent: They call it a Royale with cheese.
Jules: A Royale with cheese. What do they call a Big
Mac?
Vincent: Well, a Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it
le Big-Mac.
Jules: Le Big-Mac. Ha ha ha ha. What do they call a Whopper?
Vincent: I dunno, I didn't go into Burger King.
McDonald's recently increased there dividend payout by a whopping 50%.
The stock has moved from $33.52 to $41.47 for a 23.71% increase YTD. Can
McDonald's keep up the growth? With the help of the international community
they can. They are spending 30 million to refurbish 200 UK outlets to
thank the Europeans for strong sales in Q3. Those wacky Europeans, hate
Americans but love Mcdonalds.
