Top Five Earnings Calls
for week of July 23rd 2007
Fellow Stockmasters: Here are the top 5 earnings calls that we’ll be following this week - we'll be updating these with comments throughout the week, so check back frequently:
Tuesday 07/24/07:
Amazon (AMZN)
EPS estimates are .15. If they don’t meet expectations, they are going to need some really good news or lookout for a $10 haircut.
Update: Amazon completely wrecked the shorts today like Lindsay Lohan in a Drunk Driving accident - shares are up +21.43% after hours thanks to them tri piling their profit. They only really beat by .04 a share though, we'll see how the shares perform in the open market tomorrow.
McDonalds (MCD)
EPS Estimates are .71 for Mcdonalds this time around. We're expecting good things - see our article McDonald’s (MCD) gains International Popularity.
Update: Mcdonald's lost $711.7M this quarter, marking the second quarter they posted a loss, ever. They kind of got F'd in the A on a one time $1.6 billion charge, so hang in there MCD lovers, look for a good price and load up.
Wednesday 07/25/07:
E*Trade (ETFC)
EPS Estimates are .40. Here is an interesting Earnings Preview from Forbes.
An excerpt from the Preview: "Consolidation in the online brokerage market is likely in the next six to 18 months, Fischer said. Because of "significant synergies" among firms, one scenario Fischer is eyeing is a merger between E-Trade and TD Ameritrade before the end of 2008."
Thursday 07/26/07:
Wendy’s International (WEN)
EPS Estimates are .34. Wendy's is trading at the bottom of it's 52 wee range of 30.29 - 67.19. We're interested in seeing if they can turn it around. They just rolled out some new offerings including the "Baconator" burger, the $1.99 "Triple Stack" cheeseburger, a Frosty Float and a 99-cent "Buffalo Crispy Chicken" sandwich.
You can also try the double whammy here, pick up some Wendy's and some Nutri System (NTRI). Last I checked, the Baconator burger and Triple Stack Cheeseburgers aren't part of a healthy low calorie diet. Look for Nutri System to post some healthy profits this quarter.
AirTran Holdings, Inc. (AAI)
EPS Estimates are .36. Is it time for the airlines to start running again? Probably not with the price of oil these days. But some momentum could start building if things start to look good in the sector.
